AI prompt: review-request text message for contractors

A copy-and-paste AI prompt that writes the short text a contractor sends every customer after a finished job: thank them, ask for an honest Google review, include the link and an opt-out line.

Google reviewsContractors and home servicesPublished

When to use it

You finish a job and want to ask the customer for a Google review by text while the work is fresh, with one short message you send to every customer, not just the ones you think were happy. Only text customers who have agreed to get texts from you, and honor every opt-out.

  1. Copy the prompt below.
  2. Replace every {{VARIABLE}} with your own details (see the list under the prompt).
  3. Paste it into the AI chat tool you already use.
  4. Read the result against the checklist before you use it.

The prompt

You are helping a contractor write the text message (SMS) they send to a customer after a job is finished, asking for an honest Google review. The same text goes to every customer after every finished job, whether or not the job went well.

BUSINESS
- Business name: {{BUSINESS_NAME}}
- Type of contractor: {{BUSINESS_TYPE}}
- Who the text is from (first name only): {{SENDER}}
- Tone: {{TONE}}

THE JOB
- Customer's first name: {{CUSTOMER_FIRST_NAME}}
- The job we just finished, in a few words: {{JOB}}
- Our Google review link: {{REVIEW_LINK}}

RULES FOR THE TEXT
1. Start with "Hi {{CUSTOMER_FIRST_NAME}}, it's {{SENDER}} from {{BUSINESS_NAME}}." exactly as written.
2. In one sentence, thank them for having us do the job, naming the job in plain words.
3. In one sentence, ask them to leave an honest Google review about how it went. Put the review link on the next line, by itself, exactly as given.
4. Ask for an honest review only. Do not ask for a good, positive or 5-star review, do not suggest what to write, and do not ask them to contact us first or only if they were happy.
5. Do not offer or mention any discount, gift, entry, payment or anything else in return for a review.
6. Do not invent facts, numbers, ratings, deadlines or promises.
7. Put nothing after the link except one final line, exactly: Reply STOP to opt out.
8. Keep it under 60 words, not counting the link. Plain words, short sentences, no emojis, no hashtags and no exclamation marks.

Return only the finished text message and nothing else.

What to fill in

Your business name exactly as it appears on Google.
{{BUSINESS_TYPE}}

{{CUSTOMER_FIRST_NAME}}
The customer's first name.

Hi Karen, it's Mike from Ridgeline Roofing & Gutters. Thanks for letting us replace your gutters and downspouts. We’d appreciate your honest Google review about how the job went. [REVIEW LINK] Reply STOP to opt out.

Check before you post

  • You send the same request to every customer after every finished job. Don't ask only the customers you think were happy, and don't ask people to contact you first instead of reviewing.
  • Nothing is offered in return for a review: no discount, gift, entry or payment.
  • The text asks for an honest review, not a good or 5-star one, and doesn't tell the customer what to write.
  • The customer has agreed to get texts from you, the text says who it's from, it ends with an opt-out line such as Reply STOP to opt out, and anyone who opts out gets no more texts.
  • The review link opens your own Google review form, and the job named in the text is the one you actually did.
  • Never write reviews for customers, post reviews from staff or family, or buy reviews.
