# Egres

> Open-source (Apache-2.0) Postgres-compatible database written in Zig by Dgraph founder Manish Jain for heavy, multi-tenant workloads: speaks the Postgres protocol so psql, drivers and ORMs connect unchanged, runs on local disk or S3, compresses storage, needs no VACUUM, branches databases and tables instantly and meters resources per query. First release is single node with basic queries (equality-only, no joins).
